Zeus was the son of Kronus and Rhea, cosmic beings known as Titans. Zeus' father, Kronos gained control of the cosmos by overthrowing his father and did not want to same to happen with his children, so he planned to murder them. However, Rhea stepped in and sent Zeus away. Zeus eventually waged war on the Titans, and once victorious, he took charge of Olympus.

Zeus's eagle, Aquila was one of the chief attributes and personifications of Zeus. Aquila was known to carry Zeus's thunderbolts.
